Don't ever get a job in IT, Original. You're not really very good at coping with more than one idea at at a time.

The Brexit proposition was 1) Leave the EU and 2) Engage in free trade. The latter implies we don't put up barriers. If we simply negotiate deals with other countries/blocs then that is just ordinary trade. Free trade means we don't charge our populace tariffs or prevent their access to goods whatever counterparties try and do.

You need to accept this reality because it strips away your comforting idea (and McPosterboy's etc) that the EU will lose sales (of eg BMWs) if there is no deal. Free trade means they come in just the same as before (ie no import duties) so they are smiling.

(Well of course they're not because the real damage is to cross-border manufacturing, banking etc which adversely effects EU partners. Although nothing like as much as it hurts us.)

      Well it depends doesn't it.

How much of what we send goes to Northern Europe

and how much of what we send actually ends up going to Southern Europe

Also maybe just use the port of Rotterdam to take up some of the slack.

These are all options should the French start playing up

The point I was trying to make was that if Europe suddenly decide to make things difficult by hiding behind rules which could easily be changed - then we could reciprocate.

And removing barriers to trade is beneficial for both parties - no need to all have the same set of politicians though is there?

I really struggle with why you are so resistant to change and have a deep desire to be a part of a centralised Europe, it's fine, it's your choice and I respect that but I simply do not understand it.

How many containers a day do you estimate the port of Gibraltar could handle? Very approximately of course.

They are applying the same rules to the UK as they do to all other third countries. Stop trying to be a special snowflake.

You mean he wants to have his cake and eat it? Surely not? He voted out, he knew what he was asking for so he can't possibly be misunderstanding what 'out' means.

Sorry was not saying to go into Gibraltar - just to use the Strait of Gibraltar to get into the med - and once you are in the med entry to a southern European country is easy.

You brexiters really need to get your stories straight ... one minute you're referring to the EU as a single entity, bullying poor little UK, and the next you're suggesting that individual EU countries can work under their own rules and make their own sovereign decisions. I guess this is what you do though to match the narrative you are trying to prove.
