Ireland to enforce a hard border

Ireland to enforce a hard border in the event of no deal

Not looking good for "no deal" Brexit.

    I'm alright Jack

The European Union has confirmed it would enforce a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland in the event of a no-deal Brexit, in a blow to hopes that a workaround could be found.
I expect they will draft in elements of their Army to ensure the work proceeds as planned.
Let me guess...........they will be building a wall and making the Norn Irish pay for it.

A spokesperson for the European Commission told reporters in Brussels that it was “pretty obvious” that new infrastructure would be needed if the UK crashed out without a withdrawal agreement.
Oh well, straight from the horse's mouth then.
“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”

Don't see it as being a problem other than for Eire. What the EU should do is negotiate a deal with the UK It's quite simple you sit down and say together that these are the trading terms for import/exports between our two territories The problem with the EU is that they don't want a deal because they don't want us to leave and keep forgetting we're a sovereign nation and won't be a member of the EU soon

The EU and British government have agreed a deal. Unfortunately parliament doesn't like it.

A couple of misconceptions in that piece, though possibly semantics:

Though the premise that a border would appear has defined Brexit talks for months, all sides have so far shied away from saying they would enforce one – as required by World Trade Organisation rules.
WTO rules do not require a border. The WTO rules provide the framework for remedies if other nations are disadvantaged by there not being an enforced border.

Both the EU and UK could face sanctions under the WTO rulebook if they try not to enforce the border.
There are no "sanctions under the WTO rulebook". It's up to aggrieved third party nations to seek sanctions (or to apply retaliatory tariffs), but there's no list of sanctions in any "rulebook".

Apart from that, of course a border will be needed in the event of No Deal.

But it's not a trade deal but a fudge of a deal delaying a real trade deal until such time as the UK decides it wants to stay in the EU

Feck me, you've stumbled on to the secret formula to it all that nobody else could think of....

It's a major problem for British people in Northern Ireland, particularly agriculture. Which, given NI relies on a significant amount of government handouts from Westminster makes it a UK problem.

                Milk processing is particularly tricky.

We'll need that milk and farm produce from NI once we're not importing it from the EU, good news for NI farmers
