I wonder if the chaps with farms straddling the border will need to pay 40% beef tariffs every time they move the cows from one field to another.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostMilk processing is particularly tricky.Comment

Err, yeah, "moving forward". How long exactly do you think it takes to build a milk processing plant?Originally posted by tazdevil View PostExactly it can all be processed in NI moving forward
(Note: I don't think this is that bad an idea, I'm all for investment in NI so they can be more self-sufficient. However, the timescales may be a little beyond March 29).Comment

Have you considered the possibility that existing NI plants may not have much problem upscaling?Originally posted by meridian View PostErr, yeah, "moving forward". How long exactly do you think it takes to build a milk processing plant?

The last time one of the milk processing plants in NI expanded, it was in 2010-2012. They spent £10million, mostly coming from government grants and as a result that plant handles roughly 50% of the total NI milk production, up from 43%. The expansion took 2 years.Originally posted by meridian View PostErr, yeah, "moving forward". How long exactly do you think it takes to build a milk processing plant?

The other milk processing plant, responsible for less than 1% of the total milk production, only works with one farm (Wrights).
The rest of the raw milk is exported.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Stick to insulting people, every time you stray into trying to provide "facts" you shoot yourself in the foot.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostHave you considered the possibility that existing NI plants may not have much problem upscaling?Comment

£10m is surprisingly cheap, at Arla we spent that on just on training the Production Planners.Originally posted by WTFH View PostThe last time one of the milk processing plants in NI expanded, it was in 2010-2012. (Joking of course, but they weren't cheap).Comment

NI set to benefit from dairy deal - Farming LifeOriginally posted by meridian View Postprovide "facts"
“Northern Ireland has excellent potential to supply high quality dairy products to meet increasing demand for dairy worldwide. Our Global Logistics Centre at Newtownards is also well equipped to support this requirement. The building block for all of this is the high quality milk sent to us for processing by our milk producers and which we make into a wide range of value added dairy foodservice products and food ingredients.”

Although that’s a nice story (I saw it when it came out, thanks) it doesn’t show that “NI plants may not have much problem upscaling”.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View Post
Just pulling out random stories that have “Northern Ireland” and “dairy” in them doesn’t make an argument.Comment
