I fail to see why moving from the basement to the main house would affect anything....

If we continue the analogy what has happened is that the neighbours have suddenly decided to put up a load of walls and barriers

because they preferred it when you were in the basement and did what you were told.

Tell me again who is leaving?
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

          Classic!

So back in the real world, do you want the UK to leave the customs union and single market?

You live in your mums basement - you pay rent for that and in return you get some stuff - however there are rules which you have to abide by (such as you have to go to church on a sunday and you can only have 1 friend over at once and your mum must 'vat them) - now because it is all you know you think that the money you pay is worth the return you get and you do not really see the rules because they have always been there.

Unfortunately your mum dies and you inherit the house - this means that you do need to pay more for the upkeep and bills and all that - and also sadly your mum is no longer there to cook your tea and wash your socks so all looks roomy and gloomy

But then as you walk into your new house and realise that you can sit in your pants watching tv and drinking beer at 11 am 0 if you want.

And you no longer need to go to church - which you never enjoyed but went to keep your mum happy.

So initially it is all a bit scary and money is tight - but as you slowly realise the only thing stopping you from doing whatever you want is you, you start to branch out.

And then what happens is you start to have more than 1 friend over and nobody gets to 'vet' them - this leads to some interesting experiences and opens you up to the possibilities of things you never dreamed of.

You still put some flowers on Mum's grave each your because you realise she did love you and she always wanted to keep you safe but she never understood that for you to truly achieve your potential you needed to be unshackled and stand on your own two feet.
You really want us to reply to this? It will be like shooting fish in a barrel.

I'll give you one argument ..... your analogy would mean leaving the EU is akin to the members of the EU parliament dying, and we inherit the EU. So we get to keep all the benefits of EU membership after we leave? Unicorns mate.

Your analogy would have worked better had you said you left home to fend for yourself. You now Have to pay more for rent (because, let's face it, your mom didn't charge you full market rates). You have to buy and cook your own meals (costs more, but you have taken back control). You live in a less desirable part of town as you can't afford your local area any more (but you can invite more friends over, that's nice, apart from they don't want to visit anymore).

            Nice try though. Well done.

In his analogy apparently he's not leaving, he's taking over. Maybe he's advocating killing everyone in the EU so he can inherit what's left of the EU

He's even more dim than i thought.

The analogy was actually about the lack of imagination that people have because they have been stuck in the same place for so long, following the same rules and doing the same thing that they have forgotten how to change or that change is even possible.

Like not being subject to stupid rules. For example, every horse in this country has to have a passport whether they travel outside the UK or not. Apparently, it stems from the French eating horse meat.
Horse meat is widely consumed accross Europe. There are a number of drugs used to treat horses, including Phenylebutazone or "Bute" that are toxic to humans and cannot be allowed to enter the food chain. The passports record medical treatment and drugs administered and are part of the evidence that horse meat is fit for human consumption. A horse treated with Bute canot be sent for slaughter for human consumption.

There are at least three abbatoirs in the UK that slaughter horses for human consumption and export the meat, and export of live animals for slaughter is legal provided the papperwork, including passports, is in place.
