To be honest anything which displaces already displaced kids is always going to be hit and miss.

We have had plenty of problems with kids in social care in this country for as long as I can remember.

Is it the governments fault?

The question will be how much money do you want to throw at this problem - and many many tax payers will say as little as possible.

Did you miss the children who were forcibly relocated bit? That is pretty clearly the UK's fault. As for "would they have had a better life in the social care system", if you are suggesting that they would have been abused anyway had they stayed here then you have to accept that the UK is at fault again.

No I did not - the point I was making was - regardless of where they were sent or whether they stayed in the Uk was one of the choices any better or worse than another one.

Also is every kid who was in these programmes gonna sue the government or did some go on and have perfectly natural fulfilling lives?

Then when it's pointed out we have been just as bad, if not worse, then you say meh, who cares. We'd have to pay for it not to happen and who would really want to pay more tax to stop child abuse?

My first post was tongue in cheek - it was only a few years ago that ever other week there was another child abuse case in a UK institution supposedly there to protect vulnerable children.

But the fact is

1) Orphans or often ignored - they have no voice - and this was especially true back in the day - hopefully it does not happen now
2) That started just after the war, no one had any money, no one had anything much of anything - so the kids would either starve/be abused in the slums of UK cities or at least have a chance of a better life in Oz/Zimbabwe.

The problem is there was no perfect solution to this - there never will be until money is no longer a thing.

Only passed through Moscow. Picked up from the airport, and driven 200km SW to work with the kids in the orphanages near a provincial town. I do at some point plan on going as a tourist to Moscow and St Petersburg.
