    Black Ops Trade Talks

Big business taking over your rights: Shadow Trade Talks | IFT
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Chlorinated chicken, hormone infused beef, and a bonfire of employment and environmental regulations. It’s what we voted for, after all.

Do you really see Parliament voting for that lot? Makes a good scare story though, doesn't it...
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

This bunch will vote for anything if it promises a directorship at the end of their term

What makes you think all post-Brexit trade deals will come to Parliament for approval? Liam Fox is already known to have met the American participants, and the U.K. side (Legatum in particular) already have Tory MPs from ERG on their side.

If the US insists that their chicken and beef are fit for human consumption, how could the U.K. refuse? We need trade deals, and we will need to flex our regulations to meet the larger party’s demands. It’s not that far-fetched.

The Tories have already started planning to water down employment rights, why wouldn’t environmental rights be next?

Burying your head in the sand is no good, you voted for this.

How does US chicken compare to say Thai chicken (often in tinned chicken products)?

No idea. Do you have any links to any Food Safety or other government sites that indicate that there is a problem with Thai chicken?

It’s not the chicken per se anyway though, it’s the wider concept of how the U.K. sees it’s food regulations diverging from the EU. Too much divergence in order to meet US requirements would mean cutting off the EU market for our food producers.

A sensible government policy would see minimal divergence in order to minimise the impact on our primary producers. Politically though, they might see a US trade deal as something to win at all costs to show that we can do deals with one of the top three markets.

Which pretty much means either a hard border between Northern Ireland and Eire or NI remains in the customs union and with it, the single market and...oh...freedom of movement so that means a hard border between NI and the rest of the UK
