No, they aren't. QDOS covers a tax investigation. PCG membership covers quite a lot these days

And since Qdos covers an area that PCG membership doesn't, there is no reason why one shouldn't have both.

(Yes, I know you can get a discount with Abbey Tax or someone similar with a PCG membership)

Well if you really want to spend money insuring against an event that the insurer is convinced won't ever happen or they wouldn't have insured you against it...

The whole point of the basic PCG and QDOS cover (and anyone else's) is to give you seriously expert assistance to ensure you don't get stuck with a tax bill. I personally remain unconvinced by the payment protection insurance concept on principle; in effect you are insuring against being done for tax evasion. One day that's going to blow up in our faces.

I have to say I can't help feeling the same to some extent. Maybe not exactly for the same reasons but the apparent lack of requirements for this insurance and the fact it isn't scaled against risk like everyone other form of insurance just doesn't sit right. I am happy to have it in place as it's cheap as chips but can't help think something is not quite right.

No, you're insuring against the professional advice they provided being shown to be false. It's kind of like me paying for their professional liability insurance, but for less than a day's rate, it's pretty negligible.

IR35 is a failed policy, it's left around to scare new contractors into going inside and paying much more tax than they should. On top of this lots of companies make buck selling the fear. Alien invasion insurance is more likely to be claimed.

I missed one once, and they added it onto the policy with no problems. Since I always get them to review my contracts anyway, it was a no-brainer.

I have just spoken to Gina at QDOS and explicitly asked whether contracts need to be specifically named in the policy....they do not.

This is not required as of now...it used to be in the old policy wording hence, confusion is rife.

                Grump.

Apparently the contact does not need to be reviewed either. But a free review is included should you feel the need.

are we saying that PCG and the basic contractor assessment that Qdos provide is plenty enough and the likeness of needing the insurance is negligible?

This is exactly my question also. In already a PCG+ member and have had the basic QDOS contract review. Im now wondering whether I need to take out the QDOS IR35 insurance which seems to explicity cover any owed back tax (compared to the PCG policy as I understand it).

                      Thanks.
