Who offers the best contract review service?

    Hi All,

Who offers the best contract review service? Quite a simple question, but I couldn't find it with a search.

I am of course interested in IR35, but also 'wider' contractual issues that I maybe unaware of as I am fairly new to the game.

    Thanks,
    Untouchable1

        It depends.

If you have QDOS insurance, they give you 3 free reviews.

If you want the reviewer to negotiate on your behalf, Bauer and Cottrell will do that (QDOS do it too but I think you have to ask).

I think most people on here are split between the 2.

Just to be clear I don't believe the free one is as intensive as either paid option or the B&C offering. Slightly different beasts so need looking at on their own merits based on your requirements. Happy to be proven otherwise by QDOS though. Just check if you go down that option.

Had 2 contracts reviewed at once by QDOS as I've had PI/PL and IR35 insurance with them for years. The review returned was pretty basic and requests for clarification on some points raised were simply ignored. Conversely, Bauer & Cottrell were very on the ball with the reviews I've had with them in the past. I don't believe the "get what you pay for" maxim applies to the QDOS service as the 3 "free" reviews make their insurance very attractive, but they are quite basic in comparison.

IMO, Bauer & Cotterill. They negotiate on your behalf with the agency and gets results. None of this 'tell you what's wrong but its up to you to discuss with the agency' tosh.

                    With NLUK on this.

I use B&C, service is excellent. Ok its costs but generally what I do is get the initial contract reviewed and then every other extension (assuming that the wording is the same) as current client renews on a 3 month cycle so it can get expensive.

Kate did a contract review for me back in 2008 and spent some considerable time re wording the contract because in her words "they're tried to make it good for contracts but they're just not quite there". Then spent more time explaining it to the agency why this was good for both me and them and explaining IR35.

Last review I had the e-mail from one of Kates reviewers started "Hi Cathy, hope you keeping well....." the point being that they deal with these agencies on a daily basis and a know the contract from the first few lines and also know the people on the other end so can explain why it needs changing.
