For Online VAT is there a way of submitting my quarterly VAT return early ?

For Online VAT is there a way of submitting my quarterly VAT return early ?

my accountant says 'no' and he told me this only after he recommended that I cancel my VAT online direct debit payment (and inform HMRC VAT also that I've done this) and pay my VAT direct (quoting my VAT reference number) upfront.

Obviously I'm a bit cheesed off about this as according to him I'll have to wait until December before I can submit the VAT return online and its necessary for me to do this as ASAP as I'm closing down my company and I can't initiate the proper close down until all liabilities must be paid... so I have to wait another month and a half to start the process.

    any ideas / suggestions ?

Talk to the VAT helpline. If there's a shortcut process, they will know about it.

Also, if you're closing down you presumably know your VAT liabillity pretty much to the penny. There has to be a mechansim to pay it off, you can't be the first to hit this one.
    Blog? What blog...?

ring up HMRC and ask them. Someone there will know what can be done.

If you're closing down then you should have de-registered for VAT, at which point HMRC will issue a final return up to the point of de-registration. This would mean completing that return rather than your usual quarterly one, so you shouldn't have to wait at all.

If you're going down the company strike off route, yes. If going down the liquidation route there can be benefits to leaving the VAT registration open a little longer, getting the liquidator to close it off as part of their processes.
