    SJD not doing annual returns?

    Hi

I got an email from SJD telling me "Your Annual Return for Companies House is due shortly." and that I should do WebFiling. I emailed back requesting that they do it (as I thought I was paying them for them to do this for me!) but they replied saying "Unfortunatly we are unable to submit the company annual return on your behalf, due to the payment of fees and company officer should do the declaration."

Is this right? If so, then what 'annual return' do they claim to do for you on their website when you sign up with them?

If anyone can help out, I'd much appreciate it.
    Thanks!

I never thought they did this (they never did it for me), but you're right - their website says:

"Our complete accountancy package includes: completion of accounts, all company returns, payroll bureau, dividends, corporation tax computations, personal taxation, free bookkeeping software and unlimited access to your accountant, we do all this for a fixed monthly fee of just £110 plus VAT, which is of course fully tax deductible and is also one of the lowest prices in the market."

And from the all-inclusive detail page:-

Our all inclusive fixed fee accountancy package covers all corporate and personal taxation. The package includes: Completion of accounts, payroll bureau, dividend administration, corporation tax calculations, dealing with Inland Revenue and Companies House, completion of VAT returns and annual returns, personal taxation, IR35 compliance and free bookkeeping software for a fixed monthly fee of £110 plus VAT.

Just searched my email for 'annual return'.

        Had this:

"Just a quick note to inform you that we will be filing your 2011-12 (PAYE) Employer's Annual Return(P35/P14s) to HMRC online based on the payroll information supplied to you by us."

So clearly there's more than definition of Annual Return.

Worth pursuing though - other accountants with lower fees (InTouch for example) do file this for their customers (and cover the fee).

My accountant do mine which they charge me the fee of £14, which they state

"The cost for filing your Annual Return is £14, which is the Companies House filing fee."

Seems reasonable to me. Its utter bulltulip though, £14 to tell them nothing has changed since last time!

FWIW we encourage clients to do their own, though do hold their hand through the process when required.

The hardest part of the annual return is getting all your login details & passwords.

Thing is, the co House return is not an Accounting return, is it...? And it's not like it's a major effort to complete. You want to be a business, act like one.
              Blog? What blog...?

He doesn't want to run a business, he wants to be a contractor.

FWIW I'm 90% sure my accountant eats the cost of this... I might be wrong but I can't ever remember sending InTouch any extra cash for additional stuff like this.

Yep, but a monthly bill that is considerably lower than SJDs.

                    Edit:

                    "InTouch - What's included:

Company annual return to Companies House (including the £14 filing fee)"
