    IR35 friendly invoicing

    Hi all,

Is there a particular way that invoices should be worded to keep them "IR35 friendly"?

In particular, I have been asked by my current employer to put my name on my invoices (as well as my company name).

Can I safely list myself as the 'consultant' who the invoice relates to?

    Thanks,
    John

Should be ok... Just don't write your client co email, address, desk phone, canteen allowance and employee parking permit details!

      FAIL

Seriously though, your client have a contract for services with your limited company, not you.

Anyway, it sounds like they just want your name on there to identify the contractor (i'm assuming they have others working for them) the invoice relates to.

How about just putting some text at the bottom saying "Prompt payment appreciated blah blah, Fred Bloggs, FB Ltd" ?

It may help if each invoice names a project that you worked on, as you are working independently on a series of projects rather than just turning up 5 days a week and doing what you are told. eg

"Widget fidgeting services performed by Johnsample under direction of MyCo LTD. X days at Y per day".

No, follow the IR35 line: "Invoice for services delivered by Joe Soap"

Sums it up for me. We can spoon feed the OP the words but IR35 still a problem with this one.

All contracts should be between the client and the company, therefore invoicing should be the same.
You want to show there is no personal service so putting the individuals name is never ideal; however, if they require it for identity purposes then quote Malvolio.

                  Is this good or bad

So if I put on my invoices

"Supply of services as <job title>"

without naming myself would this be good, bad or indifferent in terms of IR35?

It wouldn't make a major difference, although it's a good way to word it. Your working practices will be the deciding factor, regardless of what your invoices say.
