Hi all,
I'm shopping around for a new accountant because I'm paying well over the odds and fail to get decent support from my accountancy team. I only seem to get an answer when asking a question instead of them suggesting based on the info I provide. I want a proactive accountant. As someone with only basic knowledge of how it's pieced together, I need a guiding hand.
I like the sound of Nixon Williams with their book keeping, experience and all in offer but like using an online portal to put my expenses/mileage on. Can anyone advise if they do that? I can't see it on their website. I will phone tomorrow for clarification anyway but hoping someone on here might be able to answer sooner!
Everything seems positive on them...might go for it anyway!Last edited by mornando; 9 July 2014, 00:35.Comment

In all seriousness, I looked at InTouch too but I want my accountant to do all bookkeeping. Claire may be able to clarify more on here, but I intend to make some phone calls this afternoon.Last edited by mornando; 9 July 2014, 09:30.Comment

When I started contracting 17 years ago I went with JSA as they seemed to be the biggest and best advertised at the time. Over the years the prices went up but service levels came down and I was spending more time trying to make myself understood to bobs who kept asking me to send documents they already had received.
I thought it would be difficult to move to another accountant but it was very easy.
As a PCG member I noticed an accountancy firm that they recommended and I gave them a call. I had one face-to-face with them and everything transferred pretty smoothly. They do my self assessment for an extra payment which I'm happy to pay as they usually save me money and I prefer to pay someone who knows what they're doing. I've been back to the office a couple of times but I didn't need to as everything goes well via the portal and email. It's around the £80 pm mark incl. VAT.
This is a recommendation, not an advert
Accountsnet is the name of the firm and they specialise in contractor's accounts so google it for more info. I think I get something if someone joins up on my recommendation so let me know if you want to go for it.Comment
