The general consensus of the threads I have read below are to go with the contractor specialist ones rather than a local bod. Knowing our business is better than face to face it seems. Some people are recommending a local guy so the choice is yours. I have done both and the specialist one wins hands down. I am with SJD.

Just wondering if there are any further updates, Myaccountantfriend, Boox? Just about to leave SJD, as they want to increase my fees by 16% and i find that i have to do much of the work myself for P11 and self assessment and all from the spreadsheet. The due diligence isn't really that, as mistakes are not spotted (but they are rectified quickly) and i haven't required any face to face visits in 3 years. That said i have found them really helpful so its not a criticism, just a reflection of where i am now. So for me an online system will be much better, it seems they are self checking and i will be aware of my position in real time. I like the idea of freeagent/iris as i want the system to learn my transactions, its a shame that Crunch doesn't do this, seemingly needing each transaction to be matched each and every time?

Accounting company that provide one-off services, ie, no monthly fees

I am looking for a non-local accountant who is willing to just do my annual returns without me paying them a monthly fee.

I have been contracting through my own ltd for 10 years now, so I am happy and confident to do everything myself except the annual ltd company accounts and my annual personal return.

Spent about half an hour looking up all of the non-local accountants listed on this thread. However, none of them seem to make any mention of being willing to do what I am looking for. Railroading people into monthly fees and computer-says-no software seems to be the order of the day.

      Any ideas?

        Smith Craven

I would advise you not to use Smith Craven as when I left after 18 months they sent me an almost blank yet shocking invoice for around £400 out of blue, citing ridiculous reasons and untraceable clauses when inquired.

I've lost track of which of the big names is charging what. NLUK, be a love and post it will you? I have a big increase in monthly fees and just want to look at options. Won't name names as they're a great firm and I have no quibble with their service, .and the increase comes in part from the fact they were preciously charging a reduced rate, so no complaints

No idea. Not sure why that has a bearing on anything if their service is good and recommended by other people. Am happy with mine and as much as a raise in rates is a pain in the ass I won't be leaving them for the sake of 20 quid a month.

A cheap accountant can end up being the most expensive (Malvolio, 2012)

I agree in part. But a 35 quid a month increase is prompting me to have a look round. To be honest, I know what I'm doing now and am pretty low maintenance so if there's someone else recommended who's a good bit cheaper, I'll think it over.
