btw: how does one provide a receipt for a direct debit expenses (parking paid monthly by DD)
Contrary to popular belief you dont need the actual receipt, proof of expenditure is sufficient. In this case entries on a bank statement will do it.

Having said that, receipts are usually the easiest way to prove the expenditure in the first place.

Yeh, try to convince them please, the idiots said if you don't give us a receipt for a DD we will not count it as expenses... period... so I asked them how to do that? They still haven't responded.

Any update on the alleged West Yorkshire based accountant news ?

              Fair enough then.

But tbh I reckon you're going to be hard pushed to be able to find a specialist who is likely to process all your paperwork although I think Nixon Williams maybe do something like that.

For perspective, I'm an accountant and I wouldn't take you on as a client under the terms you have expressed.

I stand by finding a local accountant. Many moons ago I worked for one that did exactly that...

Thanks ratewhore, I will look into it.

Just1morethen what are the conditions that you don't like? Me providing you with all the information on a monthly/weekly basis, and I believe the accountant should fill in all those fancy complex spreadsheets, not a huge issues for the accountant as this is his / her job. What else do they need to do?
I used to do my own VAT, that took like 15 minutes, paid by DD which is the same as I am doing now.

That's useful to know - I use my company credit card for most things and have 99% in receipts, but there are the odd ones that Zam mentions.

But as a company director you have an obligation to be aware of how the basics of your company runs. Your account is only liable for mistakes to certain extent. It is your responsibility as the owner/director to make sure the company is running correctly. Surely you want to know the basics of what is going on with your money rather than entrusting everything to someone else and pleading ignorance/apathy?

And just my two penneth. I used a local accountant and he was bloody rubbish. He had no idea how contractors worked so didn't help me at all, was too busy with bigger clients to be bothered and made a right balls up. I now use SJD who yes, make me fill in a huge spreadsheet but it is all automated so just need to do the basics. Takes me a couple of mins a day tops and I am well aware of where every penny of my money is at. After doing the dump the paperwork on an accountant I much prefer the SJD method.
