Wouldn't this be better posed at financialadvisoruk.com not a contractor site?'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Only the adviser will gain from that. Put the money into a SIPP where you don't pay large amounts to an IFA for doing very little.Public Service Posting by the BBC - Bloggs Bulls**t Corp.

Anything recommended by a financial advisor is likely to be good, for the advisor.
Investing is a field of expertise unlike most others. It's one where paying an "expert" (by which I mean both advisors and fund managers) is likely to make you worse off than if you did things yourself. This isn't some surmountable quirk, it is a hard economic fact, economic theory says it ought to be true and independent studies show it is true.
The only reason I say "likely" rather than "certain" to make you worse off is that luck/volatility always plays a role in investment returns, at any given time there will be lots of "lucky fools" outperforming those who had a more sensible strategy.
Investments have expected returns correlated with amount of non-diversifiable risk you take. The middlemen you pay to stand between you and the returns reduce your expected return by exactly the amount you pay them.
If you don't understand what I've said or why it should be true, I suggest reading investment books until you do.
Ditch the advisor and open a SIPP account with Sippdeal or Alliance Trust Savings. Sippdeal is marginally better if you only invest in shares and ETFs, Alliance Trust Savings is better if you want to invest in funds. In their recommended role, both are better (i.e. cheaper) than Hargreaves Lansdown, who are popular with many on this board.Comment
