OH FFS - NO, YOU CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT INCURRING A BIK.

    1) It's available for personal use.

    2) It's being used on a journey to work which is no longer classed as work travel, it's a journey to your permanent place of work. So that makes it a personal journey.

Or, just go ahead and do it. If that's the advice you want to hear.

Dam, I didn't realise that. I thought you couldn't claim expenses past that. I didn't realise that it became your permanent place of work, should have realised that Doh!! Learn something new every day. Cheers

I may be wrong, but that's how I've always interpreted it.

The 2 year rule is there on the premise that if you have been working in the same location for that length of time, you should have moved closer. It essentially becomes your permanent place of work in the eyes of HMRC, I believe, as soon as you know that you will be there for more than two years.

Trying to get round the rules by having a company car (even if you could prove that it was never available for personal use, which is unlikely in this scenario), seems unlikely to be successful in the event of an investigation - you are using the company vehicle on a journey that cannot be described as being for business purposes.

If someone can show me that's not the case (with some kind of link rather than the usual CUK "you're wrong 'cos my mate does it" logic, then I'm more than happy to concede I'm wrong on this point.

Ignoring the 24 month part for a sec - under normal circumstances in order for a car not to be a BIK you would need to prove it was a pool car, which is incredibly hard to do (uness it genuinely is one). Almost impossible if you're the sole director and employee!

speak to joe @ Auction Car Buyer he will find you the car you want and save you the trip to the auction.

As for what to buy personally I'd go for 2.5 year old boring diesel skoda or seat. VW quality without the price tag and with some warranty left over.

It varies depending on what you are after. If you after small to midrange family cars that sell well then you are competing with traders. Go for a punt with something bit older or exotic you can get some great bargains. Also depends on the individual day and who is there. Same car could go for quite diff price on diff days. Thats the fun of the place. I bought Ford Cougar from there at 3K of the the 10k street prices and had it abother 7 years. Bloody ace but that is cause traders can't sell large engined coupe's with stupid insurance. 4 year old high spec Jag should be a bargain!

Exactly (well Hatchback) what I got via Joe. £7.5k for a 2.5 year old 45000 mile car. Did 35,000 in it and sold it for £5900 a month ago.
