Since we are asking MPs / Politicians for support, how about we don't keep publicly insulting them. Some MPs have spent time (not mine I might add) supporting our cause and if we want more to back us and raise questions in the house we need them on our side. I am sure they wouldn't be happy to log on here and see comments like this.

Indeed, people should only be insulting Labour politicians.

I take my hat off to them. Lets face it they have a tough job. You can't please all of the people all of the time. Politicians are generally people that want to make a positive difference to peoples lives.

Lets face it I am sure all of us on here would like to see them knock £200 million off the Benefits bill each year instead of going after us but what do you think the people on benefits would think about that?

Journalists are one group of people that could do with finding some integrity and honesty from somewhere. None of them report the facts. They sensationalise the truth turning the story into something it's not.

HM Revenue & Customs has won a significant victory after a court ruled that tax advice given by an accountancy firm to its clients is not privileged.

Accoutants warn that, as a result of the ruling, HMRC can now force them to divulge specific advice they make available to their clients on tax law matters.

Although the case involved insurance giant Prudential, the judgement is applicable to all taxpayers, irrespective of their size, who engage accountants for tailored advice.

According to the Special Commissioners, where correspondence with accountants would add to the facts needed to determine a tax liability, it should not be confidential.

In these circumstances, the issue of a notice from HMRC requiring the accountant to share tax planning advice is valid, and legal professional privilege does not apply, the court said

Correspondence between solicitors and their clients which contains legal advice is privileged, said law firm Harold Benjamin, and will not be shared with HMRC.

I'm glad you think so wonderfully of them after sticking their heads in the expenses trough and then complaining they do not want to pay them back retrospectively.

You are seriously dillusioned if you think our MPs read this forum and the many circular arguments that go on and on and on. This is not a controlled source of information and there lies your problem. What we need is a campaign website without a forum as the public face of this campaign. We also need the likes of PWC, KPMG, Steed to join us in a media offensive or we will not win.

              expenses

Just read an interesting article in the times. 80 mps have had their demands to repay expenses either quashed or vastly reduced. The reason being that they were acting in accordance with the rules at the time.

              Double standards anyone?

I'm feeling a lot more bullish

Obviously it was a knock last week but having had time to reflect, talk to a lot of other people (many not in the scheme), I am now feeling a hell of a lot more confident.

Justice Parker's judgment was more in line with the "spirit of the law" (purposive interpretation).

We need the higher courts to judge it on the "letter of the law" (literal interpretation), and I think we've got every chance of winning that argument.

To all those who are considering settling

Feel free to try but I can't see you getting anything out of HMRC.

Jones only got minor concessions from them settling on behalf of 148 Suo Motu users, and HMRC had no case back then.

Settling is a one-way ticket. There's no comeback if we win.

Do you really want to throw away a chance of winning?

Another thing that DR told me that is worth considering:

The interest chargeable will NOT be compounded.
Interest rates are 1%. I think that means HMRC can only charge 3%.

With that in mind, I am waiting the highest court in the land and Europe to decide, and I don't care how long it takes.
