Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living! -
Keep your powder dry
I understand why some of you want to write to your MPs but they can't interfere with the courts (sub judice etc).
The time for us all to put pen to paper is if HMRC try to enforce collection while an appeal is pending.
This is an area where MPs can intervene on our behalf, and I'm sure we would get their full support.
I suggest we hold fire for the moment.Comment

Also, on an earlier point, I don't think there is any point paying on account at all. They aren't going to cut a deal. Especially if you have the funds, I think the best idea is to pull them together in case you need to transfer it at short notice, should the doomsday scenario happen. That way they have no hold on you, if God forbid, we lose, you write the cheque and walk away if you can. There's nothing to be gained by giving it to them now.Comment

OR
are you saying that if you take MTMs estimates of what you personally might owe (which included interest) that this is now 1.3 times that estimation?
I really hope its the former - otherwise most of our debts just increased by about 50k!!!!!Comment

Requests for letters
Please don't send me requests for copies of letters from Montpelier, and especially not deGraaf who I have no affiliation with.
If you don't receive the updates then contact them to get yourself on the mailing list.
Incidentally, this and all future Montpelier letters will only talk in generalities. For obvious reasons they can't discuss specific points of appeal because it could fall into the wrong hands.
Remember, we are at war!Comment

So, Montpelier \ MTM's letter that I understood to be being sent out yesterday is now being sent out some time today?
As for pcg, bunch of twats and I expect nothing from them. They were all high and mighty (and still are if you read their comments) that the scheme was dodgey from the start.
Now the wider implications of retrospection are becoming clearer to them, they are going 'oh, er, this may affect us some time down the line.'
Oh and nice to see that hMRC can now force your accountant to divulge any tax advice \ planning over to them.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment
