Word has it that the mince pies and glasses of milk are a benefit in kind. The revenue simply fail to believe that these are all for personal consumption. Apparently 'because he's magic' doesn't constitute a legal defence, so they have retrospectively backdated the tax and interest for 300 years. The treasury is £200m down because of this aggressive and artificial bun stashing scheme. They have emphasised that they have always made it clear that this was the case, it says so in the Magna Carta, simply by rearranging several words and pretending others mean something different, and adding a few new ones if necessary. -
