Suo Motu went to HMRC, not the other way round. So there was no evidence that Suo Motu wouldn't have worked.

Elvin mentioned that a deal was struck and a reduced amount agreed. If there were laws that applied why do a deal when you can easily get the full amount.

"rolling over" sounds good - i.e. there's no real reason why they should not have carried on....

DR will probably have counted, but my guess is between 30 & 40.

The revenue case seems to be:
        1. Parliament can make what laws it cares to.
        2. Our scheme isn't fair to everyone else that paid their fair share.
        3. 'You were under investigation so should have saved up'.

Not a strong argument is it?

It's difficult to tell who's who (affected/law student/nosey parker) but I would guess at 35 people. Apparently the upstairs viewing gallery has not had to be opened for quite some time.

If anyone can get there tomorrow it is well worth the trip. It's very interesting hearing the full details and they are even speaking plain English - even I understood them.

hahaha love point 1, isn't that the sort of attitude that partly led to Nixons downfall on the Frost interview?

point 2, doesnt that also therefore relate to any other form of tax planning, hardly an argument is it...

            point 3 is a classic....doesnt even justify a response

im going to pop down there around lunchtime, when do they break for lunch? pointless me rocking up if they are all having a sarnie

              1. Yes but they make them on advice of some (most sit on there bots waiting for their pensions) public servants - even the malicious bastards.
              2. I am sorry but over 60% tax at the top end under IR35 is a little more than a fair share.
              3. Hows that then? First I heard of it was when they dropped the bombshell "clarification"
              Regards

I was upstairs this morning with 23 other people (including DR). From my time spent illegally standing at the back downstairs, I'd guess another 20 down there including Jones who just said "I'm Jones". Swopped with a colleague at lunchtime so can't vouch for the afternoon. A healthy turnout !

How do you get to the upstairs gallery? I was hanging out illegally in the porch area downstairs.
