        Dear xoggoth - Account security

I take your point xoggoth about Personal ID but why did they not say so in the first place. Would have saved lots of grief.

I am not sure I really want both business accounts accessible from one login. If your account gets hacked into in some way you loose your money from both companies. How good is that??

I am considering unlinking the 2 accounts but I am still waiting for a debit card and a second set of new Registration numbers and whatever the other one is called.

I have other on-line accounts where they ask you for character three, four and next to last rather that the whole shooting match.

Doesn't seem very secure to me.

Well, pish and tish. I just made the (hopefully not too stupid mistake) bold move of downloading IE 8 b2 and the update for that fix is a separate update. You'd have thought they'd integrate it into a nightly build or something.

I think I'll complain to my MP.

Back on topic - just logged into Abbey business banking, clicked to view the transactions on my business current account, with the following result:

            Error code: 0

            Fatal System Error

This kind of thing really shouldn't happen on a banking system.

Hmmm, not good that. I agree, that's p1ss poor really. You'd think a banking system would be rock solid. You'd hope so anyway.

It's not a banking system. It's a fairly mundane web application which interacts with banking systems. I'm sure online banking from most banks have errors sometimes of this type where it is down for the odd few hours sometimes.

To reiterate: online banking is only very loosely linked to your actual bank account.

If you're an FSB member, use the Co Op Free Business Banking option.

I've no problem with the underlying banking system being down for a couple of hours at a time - that's only to be expected. What I don't expect is to see messages such as "error code: 0" in a customer-facing web application, especially one concerned with the movement of money. It shows a lack of attention during implementation and testing, and hints at the possibility of more severe defects elsewhere.

I'll be sure to remind of your words next time I attempt to pay a £30 invoice with the online banking, and fall victim to a bug that instead decides to request the transfer of £3000 from the banking system.
