    not like me at all.

of course it may be the prospect of kicking nu-labour out of office in a year or so
I am almost certain we will eventually win. I hope to survive long enough to toast the victory!

That's the spirit. There's a long way to go and we just need to carry on chipping away.

      Keep fighting!!!

They must have received several dozen representations by now. I wonder what's going on?

Anyway, let's keep up the momentum. I have fired off letters to the following people in the last week, accusing the Govt of misleading Parliament and calling for an inquiry.

        George Osborne
        Vince Cable
John McFall (current Chairman of the Treasury Committee)
Thanks DR, your mine and my families champion

Nice surprise in the post yesterday....

I finally got 2 (out of 4) 'CNs' yesterday in the mail, except they are not CNs, they are letters that say "I have now completed my enquiry into your Tax Return for the year ended....." (April 05 & April 06)

the figures are more or less what I was expecting.

It goes on to say that "A copy of this notice is also being sent to your agent".

As MP are registered as my agent does this mean they will automatically appeal this or do I need to do anything ?

Something else that I don not understand is the fact that the letters say...

"Your SA before my enquiry was that £x tax was due"

"My amendment results in a £y increase in tax due"

The amended SA is now £z tax due" where £z is £x + £y.

Given that I will have already paid the £x figures back when it was due, how come they are adding it up like this ?

          Is it a mistake ?!?!?

In a nutshell, do I need to contact MP about this and are the HMRC calculations wrong ?

Update ..... Just spoke to NW at MP and the figures are indeed worded badly, it is only the £y figure that I migh have to pay should the worse come to the worse.

The final figure (when my final 2 years come in) will be 30% less than I had previously thought it would be, at the moment I could potentially pay 30% of what I owe.

Should the worse come to the worse I hope and pray that 'you know who' will, at best honour the deal given previously and talked about a lot on here, be open to 'offers' say 50% or at worse be open to negotiation on payment terms.

I had the same - where it the letter implied that I had paid no tax at all from the beginning of the scheme (i.e as tax due). This was then followed up awhile later whith a correct tax due amount - it is confusing and I raised this issue on this forum a few days ago

It means they know they have got a problem because they have given (almost certaihnly inadvertantly) confliciting pieces of written evidence that have now been exposed together which they were not expecting. They are trying to figure out a way of coming up with an answer to everything being asked by the MP's which is somehow consistent with what they now know is in the public domain.

We will deal with this later, possibly via a complaint to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.

No I bet they didn't. They knew the promoters would take legal action but they probably just expected us to go along with this.

We are having a real problem with many Labour MPs, and we should not let them off the hook. All we want them to do is forward the letter to the Treasury, and we need to keep hassling them until they do this.

They also have to be extremely careful that they don't say anything which could be used against them in court.

What may have caught them off guard is that it has taken us over 6 months, since the bill got royal ascent, to mobilise.

Odds are they didn't expect you to mobilise en-masse and with far more intelligence than they have.

If they had taken on the Lawyers, Medics or Accountants they would have expected an intelligent response, by attacking IT contractors they thought they were taking a pop at grease monkeys or Joe Bloggs shopkeeper type businesses, they've obviously had a shock by the reality of the situation.

Keep up the pressure, I for one will be happy to see you guys win and defeat this particularly unjust legislation.
