HMRC Interest Rates.

According to the FT, the good folk at HMRC are reducing the interest they charge to 3.5% from next week. If they owe you anything, the interest they pay drops to zero.

Has anyone got an estimate as to how long it takes after an appeal is lodged before HMRC updates the owed amount to zero. Two of my appeals went in on the 13th and have yet to be reflected online.

Summary

Just thought I'd pull together what I know is happening with the various players.

Montpelier
As MontP submitted their application first, it will be our case which will be heard first before the High Court. I have received several estimates from informed sources of how long it could take before the JR happens, ranging from 3 to 12 months from the date of application (October 2008).

DeGraaf
They initially submitted a JR application but it sounds like this has since been withdrawn. I have seen it confirmed in writing that they are now backing MontP's case.

PwC
They have applied for a JR on behalf of their property developer clients. However, they are now in discussion with MontP. They have a meeting scheduled with WG.

Steed
They are using KPMG to represent them. At the moment, they haven't agreed with their Counsel whether to proceed with JR or ECHR. If they do go down the JR route, then I suspect they will probably end up joining the "MontP Alliance". (Incidentally, I thought you had to apply for a JR within 3 months of the legislation coming into force, so haven't they missed the boat?)

KPMG
In addition to representing Steed, it is rumoured that KPMG are also taking a property developer case to the Commissioners but I haven't been able to substantiate this.

Forgive my ignorance but are we only fighting this case on the HR issue ? I thought there were other issues that were being fought over
