It is incredibly unlikely our government will ignore such a human rights ruling, even though their human rights record is not the best in Europe, by any means. Usually this lapse in our record is due to our government not supporting or leading in the area of human rights, or carrying out questionable actions such as assisting the USA with rendition flights, rather than direct breaches of human rights against their own citizens.

However, at that point we would simply lobby the human rights groups with this case. Whilst it is not your average 'journalist rotting in Iranian jail' type of thing, it would be of utmost interest to those groups as a 'thin-end of the wedge scenario'. To show just how far this government has sunk in vendettas against their own citizens, let alone the rest of the world by acting as as the lap-dog of America.

A weak government such as the one we have now, facing a rapid exit from power due to a disastrous war, causing a recession, running a police state etc., is not going to want to add a breach of ECHR law to its list of offences. Regardless of whether we are perceived as overpaid, middle class white collar workers.

I just got this from montp in case the baliffs call :-

My advice is don't let them in and tell them (the bailiffs) to get in touch with the local compliance inspector.

Apparantly the bailiffs/collectors are supposed to check with the local compliance office if it's ok for them to make the visit but unfortunatly that bit of the chain seems to not be happening -

Problem is that there are 2 separate depts with two diff systems.... crazy or what???

Also, Mr B and sidekick if you are reading this. Get off your lazy arses and answer the phone.
Hi All, been lurking for a while given they turned up at my house today i thought i'd share my thoughts with you.

Potentailly owe six figures for 05-6, 06-7, 07-8. Had a couple of sleepless nights when this all started, managed to get most of the money together, some in CTD's some returning better interest rates.

As long as i can keep working then should be ok.

I was out when they called, and the girlfriend had her iPod on so didn't hear them.

The team at MP have been first rate today, great job by them all.

Expecting calls back in the morning, will let you know how its going.

Have been hearing about people getting divorced, health problems, worries about losing house etc.

Have decided not to worry about any of this, no point, as keynesian economics is all the rage i refer HMRC to the man himself "in the long run we're all dead", think i'll just have some fun while i'm waiting.

          Hi all,

The people gettng the visits from the bailiffs, is this because they have not paid or not taken out a CTD? If you done a CTD would that spare a visit from these sc*umbags?

          Thanks

I wonder what an incoming Tory government would do if this was still going on?

Perhaps our energy would be better spent trying to get rid of Brown & Co.
I was disappointed by the recent reversal in the polls, I was beginning to believe there was a co-ordinated effort going on to lie to any and every polster who asks... NU labour are wonderful.. Brown is our saviour etc... etc.. The delusional nutcase would believe it all and call election in spring; imagine his surprise when ..............................

In some ways, I hope this recession is really really bad, because it will mean the British public won't be fooled into voting Gordon and chums for another term.

When Joe Public is sitting at home with no job and the threat of repossesion, the New Liebour spin machine can go into overdrive and he will still vote Conservative

... forgetting that Labour only got him into this position by mistake, whereas the Conservatives think that he deserves it.

Lurker coming out of the shadows at last ! I've been with MP since 2002 and have now received and sent CN's to MP.

I'll have enough equity in the house to cover the tax and i recall a poster awhile back saying that it's possible that if thats the case then the tax office will accept taking out a second charge on the property to cover the amount. Is this correct as this is probably my only option bar selling the property.

One other point is that if the JR does fail then is that the end of the matter -i.e baliffs will turn up the next day. If HRMC can appeal if they lose do we have that recourse as well - probably not i'd guess !

Thanks and keep up the good work - this thread really does help !

nope. Its just because of HMRC total incompetance.
