Whether they are really allowed to do this is another matter. So far, HMRC have declined to respond to a single one of MP's letters strongly objecting to this tactic.Comment

You can sign up online to view your self assessment statements online at www.gateway.gov.uk.
The potential additional payments on mine are now showing as status 'Collection currently suspended'. Now, all we need to do is change that to 'Collection permenently suspended' !!
If you are worried that CNs may have got lost in the post (sent to old address etc.), then this is one way for you to check the status of your returns.Comment

A Big Welcome
and thak you to all the new posters. Unfortunately, the moderator process means your posts don't get put up straight away but fear not they will not be overlooked.
I would encourage everyone to periodically go back a few pages and check for posts you may have missed.
Often it is the new people who have got some of the most useful insights.Comment

Have you received a closure notice? Have you purchased a CTD?
BP
PS Anyone else lurking please register and let us know. the more we stand together supporting montp the better our chances are. its very easy to be intimidated by newsletters/closure notices etcetc - we dont want anyone going and just paying up! If you want to pay - get a CTD!
No closure notice recieved yet, no CTD purchased.Comment

However its a lot of money they are asking for. I had not had any letters for ages and I though they had investigated my 2001-2002, the CNs pretty much have come out of the Blue for all the years. I contacted MP yesterday and they are handling the appeal for me. I have been advised to open a CTD to freeze the interest but the amount they are asking far exceeds what I currently have and I would be forced to sell my house if it came to that. Its my understanding that the JR will not be till Feb now - is that correct?
Can anyone answer this question for him? I think we may have missed it.
BTW, I'm in a similar situation to you, can't afford a CTD. I probably wouldnt take one out if I could. I dont think they can force you to sell your house in order to pay up, but maybe someone can confirm. Be aware that HMRC do read this forum, so only post stuff you dont mind them reading or send a Private Mail to someone.'Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual'. -

It is entirely possible that a year will be missed - then will arrive later!
Best to put what you have into a CTD. I still think 2011/2012 before we win! Its going to take years......Comment

Don't contact Montpelier at the moment...
...unless you really have to. They are being bombarded with emails and calls about that stupid HMRC newsletter, which is diverting attention from more important matters like appealing closure notices!!!
Many thanks,
