I have a good mind to make that my signature.

Interesting that I searched that page and could not find "retrospective" - I wonder if they would like to add something on bn66?

I wonder if they get more hits than this thread?

Long time lurker here, I've been with Montp since 2002.

Just received the 'Newsletter' (send to my old address, despite me informing them of my change of address in writing, twice).

This thread and its predecessors have made very interesting reading. I'll be chipping in more in future.

Well 575 people voted that HMRC is tulip on that website.

Posted this in reply, wrote it it layman's terms so people understand:

HMRC have recently started to introduce tax legislation that is retrospective. What this means is that they change a tax law and apply it back to whatever year they feel like.

This recently happened with a measure called BN66. HMRC wanted to clamp down on a tax avoidance loophole in the Isle Of Man, so they rewrote an existing law. But instead of applying that new law from the date it was changed, they went all the way back to 2001. This actually contravenes the Human Rights Act and the affected parties are taking this to Judicial Review in the High Court.

Now, imagine changing a speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph, effective from 2001 and then receiving fines for every year since 2001. You get the general idea! This is what they are doing.

Couple that with unhindered access to your bank account so that HMRC can help themselves whenever they move the goalposts and this is a very dangerous precedent to follow.

Hey HMRC, I know you're reading this , there are a hell of a lot of unhappy people on MSN Money. Hopefully they will vote your general, Gordon Brown, out in the next election.
Maybe you should post your excellent article here as well - www.hmrconline.com

Changed it slightly and sent an email. Hope he publishes it:

            Hi Ken,

I love your website and just wanted to share with you a story thats affecting me and many other people I know:

This actually contravenes the Human Rights Act and the affected parties (including myself) are taking this to Judicial Review in the High Court and the European Court Of Human Rights.

Now imagine changing a speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph, effective from 2001 and then receiving fines for every year since 2001. You get the general idea! That is exactly what they are doing.

Than I read a story on MSN Money that Hector would like full access to our bank accounts and dip into them whenever he feels fit. http://money.uk.msn.com/tax/articles...mentid=6183028
So basically we are almost in a position where the taxman with the help of his time machine can move the goalposts and then take what he deems we owe him from our bank accounts without even asking!

Looks like George Orwell was correct all along!

                  My First post

                  Helllo All,
I am new to this newsgroup and a friend who is also in the same boat sent me the link. On Friday I received my CNs. The first was for 2001-2002, then 2004-2005. For some reason 2003-2004 was skipped? However its a lot of money they are asking for. I had not had any letters for ages and I though they had investigated my 2001-2002, the CNs pretty much have come out of the Blue for all the years. I contacted MP yesterday and they are handling the appeal for me. I have been advised to open a CTD to freeze the interest but the amount they are asking far exceeds what I currently have and I would be forced to sell my house if it came to that. Its my understanding that the JR will not be till Feb now - is that correct?

                    Hi,

                    A useful tip.

You can sign up online to view your self assessment statements online at www.gateway.gov.uk.

The potential additional payments on mine are now showing as status 'Collection currently suspended'. Now, all we need to do is change that to 'Collection permenently suspended' !!
