The loans may not need to be included on a tax return but if they are part of a tax avoidance scheme wouldn't the scheme have to be notified to HMRC?

I'm sure HMRC are aware of the scale of them but of course they will only become officially aware just before they introduce retrospective legislation to attack them.

just because i am new to all this, could anyone explain to me again that the companies that pays you a the basic hourly rate and then the rest of the money are coming from a fund, are illegal? I am getting confused here!!!

When you have got retrospective legislation up your sleave, you don't need to hurry to do anything which obviously fits in quite nicely with the culture at HMRC!!!

This is why I still think we should go to the press with it, it really is a historic change in the powers of hmrc. The fact that we might be painted as rich fat cats (LOL) is beside the point, and a joke given many will lose their houses. This governments abuse of parliamentary supremacy must be exposed to a wider audience. They simply cannot be allowed to get away with it.

Moreover, I am getting more bloody minded by the day, I will not to my dying breathe accept I owe them a penny. Had they behaved in a morally correct way, ie taking a case to court, and proving with argument that MP didnt work, I would have accepted the judgement and done my best to come to an accomodation, while being mightily p'ed off at Montpelier. They have tried their best to deny us our day in court and for that reason they deserve our contempt and full and complete non-compliance by whatever legal means.

If I was the guy who's gone abroad, I would not hesitate to rent a new place and disappear, the UK tax authorities deserve no better.

BN66 is wrong and we will win but taking it to the press may win a few people but the majority will look at us as overpaid IT contractors.. the fact that people are losing homes wont help .. they will say we shouldnt have spent all the extra money...

I am with kiwi on this - its certainly a close decision - 60/40 either way - and I fall on the side of waiting. once the story is in the public domain its harder to control - sort of like taking the tiger by the tail!

WE have seen so far that HMRC have fought hard and fought dirty - even to the point of illegally sending in their bully boys. If they try this on me I intend to assert my rights and call the police - then I am going to sue.

I intend to fight my own case with a mckenzie friend - every time I have done that I have won. And I will get as many of you in court as possible - this sort of case would be heard in public (the vast majority of cases are).

Under magna carta I have the right to call witnesses - and I intend to call the person in charge at HMRC. And someone from the government.

Maybe we could have a thread on here that details the steps to take, what to do and what to say if you get an illegal visit from HMRC.

That would be really useful to all the members and HMRC would soon stop using bullyboy tactics.
