HMRC inspired FUD over accounts
Here are the hard facts.
HMRC are in possession of 720 sets of accounts.
To date, MP have only received CNs for just under 200 users.
200 out of 720 = 27%
which is almost identical to the result of our Poll:
http://forums.contractoruk.com/accou...re-notice.html
There may be a few accounts missing, discrepancies etc. but nowhere near enough to explain why so few CNs have been issued.Comment

I do get the impression from the tone of the "newsletter" , previus letters and now they are sending out debt collectors that HMRC are simply tring to intimidate us all.
Thanks for keeping us innformed.
Rosbiffwelcome to the bn66 thread and thanks for delurking. what years were you in the scheme? have you received a CN? have ou bought a CTD?

Closure Notice
I called my local tax office 25 working days ago to ask where my CNs were (in case they were lost / sent to wrong address / etc).
I was told that someone from that department would call me back within 5 working days.
After 10 working days I called back and they told me that someone from that department would call me back within 5 working days.
2 days later I got a call from someone who told me he had a memo from Mr. He said it was a long memo but wouldn't tell me what it said.
He said he would get something out to me by the end of the week.
10 working days after that and still nothing and he called me to apologise and said that I would get something this week.
I told him I wasn't in a rush - but to send it out if he wanted.
He said that I would be getting a CN for 1 out of my 4 years.
I asked him why they didn't just send them all out.
He said there were enquiries on the other years and waiting for accounts.
I asked him why he didn't just wait until he had everything together as it would all be a lot easier.
He said I should let him do his job the way he wants to work.
I asked him why they were sending out the 1000's of CNs and - presumably - spending a lot of time and effort on them when there is a high probability that BN66 will be changed to remove the retrospective element.
He said he didn't understand what I meant and that he is just following orders and doing his job.
Should get something tonight or tomorrow then...Sunt Lacrimae Rerum

Though its probably boring - just some jumped up clerk who was bullied at school - failed to join police - getting his kicks.Comment

I couldn't be bothered with bank transfer so just sent them a cheque, which worked fine.
As you said, there's no mention of it in the HMRC website.
Really want to take out the CTD, so just to confirm, the process would be:
1. Transfer the money into the account.
2. Send them a letter of confirmation (showing your name, amount and date of transfer).
Hope I got it right...Comment

Certificate of Tax Deposit (CTD)
Originally posted by KiwiGuy View Postwhats a CTD, and whats the process of doing it?
Pros- No further interest added to your liability
- You can withdraw part or all of the money at any time (unlike paying on account)
- It's impossible to match HMRC's interest rate with a savings account (net of tax)
Cons- If we win, it only pays out a meagre rate of interest (1%ish)
- For many, an offset mortgage may be a better proposition
