This might just be picking at words but the prospect (and that's all it strictly is) or a challenge under ECHR surely doesn't make the closure notices in any way invalid. They are issued under the law as it stands (strictly HMRC interpretation of it).

It may well be that HMRC doesn't actively pursue them whilst the case in ongoing.

The interesting position will be in a few years when the issue is resolved by the courts - assuming you win of course. Anybody who appealed the notice should have it set aside. Anybody who didn't has actually accepted the assessment and has no right of appeal; theoretically I believe HMRC could still chase them for settlement.

Montp believe that the closure notices are pointless while the JR is on-going. Several local tax offices seem to have come to this conclusion too!

However any received should be forwarded to montp for appealing.

Out of curiosity, why you would want to email him?

                    Sc

I've been offered an interview with the MOD, they have offered to sponsor my SC clearance and take me on with BC, (they cant find anyone sc cleared with the skills).

Question - will my involvement with MP jeopardise my chances of getting clearance? anyone with experience in this area?

Why should it make any difference? You have paid all your tax due. HMRC are making a challenge - but in due course montp will be proved right. Innocent until proved guilty. And even if montp lose I bet MOD would not care.

Don't mention it unless they ask!
