Best of luck if HMRC ever comes knocking - they will absolutely ream you for it.
Depends on how much you earn, if your on £500 a week (working 40 hours)you must be taxed on at least minimum wage (which would be £214) you can only claim back a maximum of £286 in expenses, so to suggest you can claim a million pound a day sub is a bit far fethced.

I realise you need receipts, and I do keep as many as possible, but the chances of HMRC knocking on my door are slim.

        Eddigee,

thanks for doing us a favour. Keep doing dodgy things like this and keeping the HMRC busy so they do not come after genuine contractors like myself who play by the line.

In more seriousness, do some research and get our habits in order. I also feel that you have been preyed on by dodgy umbrella companies.

Do u also claim back £26 pounds when your mrs or mom packs ur tuna sandwich for lunch?

That doesn't mean that you can claim £26 a day with no receipts, which is what your original post implied:

i claim all my travel expenses (bus) and 26 quid per day subsistence!
The key point is that just because a company has a dispensation, you still need to keep receipts for expenses you are claiming.

Would you steal from a shop knowing that you'd probably not get caught ?

If the answer is yes, then carry on claiming £26 for expenses you haven't incurred.

What you doing is comitting fraud - pure and simple and the penalties are well known for that.

By illegally depriving the gvt of tax you are no better than somebody on the dole who's being paid cash in hand.

Mostly I completely agree. But there's part of me that thinks "depriving the govt of revenue" that they'll only waste is a morally valid argument...

You reckon? There are a whole bunch on this board who have been. Here are at least 6.

Given that there are a total of about 100 people who post regularly on this forum and are likely to have answered the question, that makes it at least a 6% chance of being investigated - completely unscientific of course. Yes it's quite low, but not low enough to risk a reaming by HMRC in my opinion...

I was thinking much the same!

I wonder how far either up or down we can take it from here?
