I can't believe my accountant used a Stick Out Tongue smiley. And I thought he was a serious guy!

William - I'm curious as to why you say you need to be near your accountant - what can you do face to face that you can't do over the phone or through e-mail?

Before you get defensive, I'm not having a go, just curious.

Maybe not now, but if anything did happen...would you welcome a nice drive to Chorley.

Just like car insurance, I hate paying it, I haven’t had an accident in 15 years. I’m a very careful driver. I think you know where I am going with that. I also have AA cover, home contents insurance, most appliances covered etc.

You have a local accountant because you know if there was problem you could see them.

I have a local accountant, but they along with all the others mentioned would help you, work with you if there was a problem. By being close by won't help issues get resolved any faster. (Unless you just don't want to pay for stamps).

We live in an world with increased communications, emails, mobiles etc.. so the need for face to face meetings have gone, and you should be able to contact anyone and they will help you. After all that is what you are paying them for isn't it ?

Or do you expect that because your accountant is going to be local, that they will be inclined to stay open longer, take calls out of hours etc ???

I picked my accountant due to them being local, shortly after FileTravel pulled the plug and I needed to get something do ASAP, but maybe I could have done it differently and gone with SJD, NW et al

For the same reason I bank in my local high street even though I use Internet banking.

I did have, what I thought was a tricky tax issue a while back, and wanted to see Darryl - which wasn't a problem. The phone is all well and good when things are OK but face to face is easier.

Maybe it's just my experience but companies offering phone only services don't always have a great customer service levels. Very easy to not pick up the phone or put me on hold for hours. Sales lines are always answered it’s once you’re a customer that things can turn to crap. And NO this isn't a diss to any accountancy firm who offers phone only services or meet me in Chorley services, so please no more resumes.

Broadband suppliers, energy suppliers, satellite TV providers - things would much easier if you could just pop down and sort things out face to face.

There is no problem that can arise that will require me to see my accountant face to face. Unless you can give me an example of such a problem then I really don't understand your point.

I've not had to go to my bank branch either since I opened my account in 1994.

I suspect you went to visit your accountant just because he was conveniently close, without actually needing to. I certainly don't want to wast my lunch breaks visiting my accountnat when I can sort something out quicker with an e-mail.

Actually not so - in reality your problem wouldn't be solved straight away, you'd probably have hang around for hours while they sort out the problems of the other 100s of people who have come in!

How could you possibly know that there is no problem that could arise where it wouldn’t be advantageous to see your accountant rather than discussing what may seem a serious or complicated issue to you over the phone.

                I had a problem.

Sorry I’m not an accountant and I can’t provide you with scenarios.

                  Point of order Mr Chairman.
I am a contractor, I do not work at home, I am only there at weekends and most accountants dont work weekends.
Where should I have an accountant?

BTW I use Darren at Upton. 1st Class.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

The original point and click interface by

Step back, have a think and adjust my own own attitude from time to time

give up mate it's you against everyone else and you're losing badly.

Need someone from SJD to tell us why their costs have gone up so much compared to NW. Still haven't had a proper response on this.
