    Lots of reasons:

    1. Qualifications
    2. Network of local offices throughout the UK
    3. Expertise
    4. Credentials

All of these are of course on the web site, along with all our awards etc, but ultimately it is up to you, the client to decide. If you think we provide a value for money service then great - if not, then look to another firm.

Still haven't got an answer to my question some posts ago.
    NW charge £720+VAT = £850 p/a.
    SJD charge £100 pm = £1,200 p/a

£350 diff. Could pay for PCG and some insurance.

Why is there such a big difference? There must be a reason.
P.S. What Spreadsheet? Revolutionising the contracting market again.

Why do they charge so much to set up the company?
The question around cost is reasonable enough. I charge more than some contractors doing the same thing because I know my end-client will pay it. SJD presumably charge what they do because they know I and others will pay it even though there are some cheaper, and even though some of those cheaper ones like Nixon Williams also have great reputations. At the end of the year, 300 quid in my Ltd. account doesn't make much odds to me compared to knowing that
      a) I've fulfilled all my obligations to pay VAT and other taxes and file accounts etc.
      b) I've been well advised to extract personally as much as possible from my Ltd. account with minimum tax liability.

I'm sure NW have roughly the same qual., expertise and credentials and as I've never been to any of SJD's offices that is pretty much irrelevant. However, i do get a very good service and my e-mails are always answered v. quickly so I don't see any need to move.
Just having a discussion that was all. Everyone seems to be a bit defensive lately.

one of the 6,000 SJD clients

Can’t really believe what penny pinching gits some of you are, do you all drive around in cheap crappy cars, buy Tesco’s value meals and wear Casio watches. Why be a contractor, I did it for the money! And I get paid well.

I don’t have time to call hundreds of accountants to check them out.

Darryl in the SJD Birmingham office has been my accountant for the last 2 years, yes it was a little shocked when I first started, more work then using my old umbrella company, but well worth it. Darryl is awesome (part from being south African that is)!. I was recommended by a colleague to use SJD and have subsequently recommended loads of others.

Of course other places are cheaper and more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Do you always buy the cheapest of everything? I feel I get excellent value for money. Darryl’s always on hand, I recently purchased a second property and he helped me with this. He always takes calls, if he doesn’t know something he finds out and calls me back. What more could I ask. I live in Birmingham, why would I want an accountant in London or even further up North?

OK williamdavis - you're clearly an anti-SJD troll who's joined pretending to be a pro-SJD troll just to discredit SJD. Or my paranoia has reached a distressing level.

Having said that, Darryl and his team are very good.

With it being your first post a cynic might say you're an SJD employee...but I'm not going there.

A few hundred pounds a year might not be that much, but for most people I think it's a question of principle. Paying extra money just to make the biggest companies even bigger and not getting anything in return is something a lot of people will be uncomfortable with.

Darryl is my accountant, he has been so for 2 plus years and I would recommend him.

I came on here as one of my colleagues still insists on using an umbrella company keeps an eye on the forum for entertainment value.

Darryl has gone above and beyond what I would expect, for what I pay him, so thought I would just add my support.

Monkeygeorge - Enough of the paying extra!

I’m sure there are plenty of excellent accountants out there, working from their bedrooms who would only charge me ₤35 a month, what am I supposed to do find them and when they get bigger and increase their fees leave?

When I was looking for a solicitor to do the conveyancing for my house I could have used some pony two bit call centre in North Wales – I’m sure they would have done an excellent job. I actually decided to again use a medium sized well qualified with a good reputation local firm. In a crazy way it kind of made sense.

Come on, thought we’d done the money thing. Move on!

I don't get your reply. In that case because I earn good money I should therefore go out and find another accoutant who's going to charge me £200 p/m.

You don't need to call hundreds of accountants. According to the posts on here it's pretty much between NW and SJD. My question is what do SJD provide above and beyond NW for an extra £400-£500 p/a. Are you saying NW wouldn't of been able to help you with the purchase of your 2nd property.

SJD are my accountants, I drive around in a Saab 93 Aero, have a nice watch, the wife gets our food from M&S and she doesn't work because she's looking after our baby daughter in our mortgage free house. So no I'm not a penny pincher and I'm not stupid either which is why I ask the question.

So still nobody has given me an answer to my question. It's just the typical insults.
