    Still Waiting.

Applied in April. Called VAT people a couple of weeks back and they said all checks are complete and I'd hear from them quite soon. Nothing happened and when I called again last week they said my application has been selected randomly by computer for further checks so keep waiting ...

The Isle of Man have their own regional vat office and registration takes around 7 days to complete. Gordons big plans backfired in other areas when he introduced the MSC legislation forcing people out of composite structures into other alternatives. Contractors setting up their own ltd co's has increased the vat registration apps.

If yuo apply online I think its quicker. I submitted 23 applications on 8th August and 20 ae already through. The other 3 have recevied a standard stupid questions letter from her madge.

Hi - I am still waiting for mine. I am using the template invoices from the Nixon Williams site. It says to write "VAT Number Applied For" on the invoice. What do I do about the VAT columns though? Do I just remove the VAT columns completely from the spreadsheet so there's no mention of it other than the "Applied For" note?

I'd leave them there but empty, it'll only confuse some lowley accounts clerk when you add them in again

Same here I'm using Nixon Williams. I put 0% rate on the VAT column. Now that I've received my VAT certificate, I've just raised a new invoice only for the VAT amount for the past invoices.

I checked with the agency they said it's OK (haven't received the VAT money yet though, so it remains to be seen if it's actually OK).

When I started my company, not too long ago, VAT registration took 2 weeks so I had my number before I raised my first invoice, now the VAT people seems to have got in a mess as with much of the civil service, so this causes issues.

I think you just have to raise a vat only invoice when you get the number but VAT cannot be charged until you have it.

You can calim bcak input VAT after you have registered, for VAT incurred before the registration date - I think it's about 6 months and only for services incurred.

I applied in April and the VAT reg certificate arrived in August. Invoiced the last 2 agencies that I had worked through, for the VAT amount dating back to April. They both paid up in full. No problem at all.
