Just rang Newry to chase my VAT and the phonelines are now only open form 10am to 3pm....still couldnt get through to anyone cos 'all lines are busy please try again later'.

I applied last week in April and have had my number through on Friday.

2 month turn around for me.

They are just so inconsistent - I applied around the same time but got the "more questions" from on Friday instead..

When you call, as soon as you get the automated message press ZERO several times and it throws you to the Switchboard and then ask for the VAT Registration area.

I applied in April too and had the questions. Answered those and got a letter saying do not call us or contact us again, we will get back to you in 12 weeks time (October)

So basically told hector that you're not a business in its own right just an software consultant.

So what? If you fail to satisfy Hector that you are a business in its own right, does that mean you won't owe any VAT?

I posted my Request for Information at the beginning of June having applied in the latter part of March to the Wolverhampton office. Having heard nothing I phoned the number on the form (which I took a copy of before posting)....amazingly, at the first attempt and after 2 rings I got through to someone. I gave them my reference number and said that my form should be looked at next week. He apologised for the delay and said they're getting a load of new people in to deal with the backlog; hopefully all being well they'll send my number out straight away.

Fair play to them for trying to sort it out...but I'll only believe them when that brown envelope appears on my doorstep!

From my experience I am still waiting after replying to the "more info" letter.

In the time I have been waiting since April, their estimates have gone from 8 to 10 weeks, if they keep losing 2 weeks per quarter they wont get on top of things. Anyone heard of they are significantly increasing their work force any time soon?

Rang them today and was told that my company's registration had be accepted and I would have the paperwork within a couple of days. Finally!!!
