IR35 repealed

Well, having just reached state retirement age, IR35 is now irrelevant to me anyway, should I choose to take a job?

It's really sh*te being old. Every cloud though. I suppose?

It's not difficult knowing where to start looking for the biggest populations is it? And agency monthly payment reporting gives the same information by another means, pretty much.

Let's pretend I am on an inside IR35 gig via UmbrellaCo and then switch to the same role at the same client but decide to use LimitedCo (and decide I am outside IR35).

Let's pretend HMRC (who can't get the names right on a mail merge) are going to build some kind of system to cross reference all UmbrellaCo employees with new company directors.

How do they know I am working for the same client?

Well now you can choose to share your expertise a few days a week and know you will definitely not be classed as a hidden employee. (Until after the GE.)

You still end up paying employer NI on inside IR35 contracts you only stop paying your personal contributions.

Oh I don't doubt the likelihood of the dots being joined are remote. There's far more important stuff to worry about at the moment.

Excellent news! I would consider working for this Blighted Isle once again rather than giving my expertise to IR35 free America. Why wait till April though?

You still end up paying employer NI on inside IR35 contracts you only stop paying your personal contributions.

That's not going to happen. For one thing, I don't get involved with agencies any more. And the people who need me know better than expect me to jump through ridiculous hoops if they want me to do stuff for them.

Besides, I'm still saying "no". Four times to the same company only last week until they eventually understood what "no" means

Particulary with a few months of any change they'll be watching peope go inside to outside and I also wouldn't put it past them to contact the clients direct and then mass gather the data on all contractors there like GSK.

Look at the GSK example. HMRC had a list of all contractors on site and mailed them. So jump forward, the legislation changes. A month later they ask GSK who their contractors are or however they found out in the first place. They have three options. Get the info of who was inside and is now outside from GSK, mail all the people to ask them or just check their returns later.

HMRC won't know the client you worked for but can get enough information with a quick mass mailing to all people that they can see has had a noteable change in tax status shortly after the change. TBH they'd be stupid not to. This could be a gift horse for them. So yes the rules might be removed which could be great for many of us but it also gives HMRC a very tasty bit of work to look at.

HMRC think IR35 rules worked. From say 95% outside, to 40% or lower outside, rules are abolished and it goes back to 80% outside. Easy pickings...

But I'm a doom mongerer and who really knows?

I wasn't........ Until recently.

But I haven't worked at all in nearly a year. And I haven't worked for a UK company since late 2014.

But there's one or two rather interesting part time propositions bubbling away that I might like doing. On my terms only, of course.

I'm seriously debating setting up an accountancy firm focussed on social care and lorry drivers... £200 a year kick back to the agency who introduces the worker to us and a everything automated as much as possible...
