Starling Bank is a think of wonder. Perfectly integrates to FreeAgent as well.

I suppose the ideal contracting bank would be the one that doesn't insist on posting you paper statements every month
HSBC have finally stopped with their last bit of monthly statement sending - the very pointless bit of paper which tells you the monthly fee they're charging.

My issue with them is their support for China over HK. Service wise I'm happy enough and don't mind the fee. Yeah I know there's free banking elsewhere but I wonder if the 'cost' is in poor service.

What services do you actually need where a human being is actually involved?

Modern banks like Starling and Monzo have much better customer service than the dinosaurs.

Completely agree. The Live Chat function on Starling is particularly excellent. Any issues I've had - from fraud to erroneous payments - I've spoken to an advisor within minutes and had it sorted.

You had fraud on your business bank account?

Try as I might, I can't get Monzo to accept me as a business customer (despite being a personal customer in good standing for years)

I did wonder if our 'sort' of business wasn't welcomed at Monzo

Is there anything quirky about your company's ownership structure? Maslins had a Monzo account, but when we went employee owned, they insisted we went elsewhere. They could only deal with companies that purely had individuals as PSCs at Cos Hse. In our situation there's now a company (the trust itself) which is listed as a PSC. I appreciate your contracting company is highly unlikely to be employee owned...but perhaps you've got some kind of quirk there which makes them uncomfortable?

Nope. One owner, no crazy turnover, listed as IT Consultancy. Was a case of (in typical banking style) "we can't have you as a customer and we can't tell you why"

Not very 'challenger bank' of them

Very much "challenger bank" of them - accept the businesses they understand and they don't seem to particularly understand 1 person consultancies so they aren't interested.
