FreeAgent for personal acounting

I've seen limited stuff in FA to do with SATRs and so on but I'm not sure if it links with HMRC or anything, and if there is more functionality for personal accounts?
I have 3 rental properties split income with the wife and it's an annual faff making my own spreadsheets going through invoices and bank statements, exactly the stuff FA handles on the company side.

Is FA any good for this? Be nice to do everything in one place.

As far as I understand, FreeAgent doesn't let you submit a tax return with rental income. its very limited on what is supported and what isn't.

FA is limited for SATR.

You can't include rental property income yet. They have a development path towards full SATR but it looks to be a year or two in the future.

What you could do is use the personal basic functions to confirm any accountant or personal calculations you have performed in other portals or calculators. It is possible to calculate your full SATR yourself and it is worth learning to do so, especially if you rely a lot on big brand accountants that over charge for the work. If you're using a local accountant, try do it yourself and offer to pay £50 and most will take this up and check it over. Given that they charge £100+ for the full SATR without you lifting a finger, this is still a good deal for them.

SATR does come across like a piece of p***, there's really not very much to do. ~£200 is about the rate now I see, though by adding it on to my accountant monthly fee it gets snuck through as a business cost which saves a fair bit compared to paying personally at year-end (personal tax would be. a BIK IIRC)

Perhaps not a solution you are looking for, but for several years now I have been using a SATR package called TaxCalc. It has wizards to help with input of many things but I have no experience of BTL. Might be worth a look? It's a low cost annual package that files SATR on line. I think the annual licence will submit upto 6 SATRs, so if you do multiple SATRs to submit it is very cheap per SATR. HTH.

I'm aware with MTD incoming for lots of landlords, FreeAgent have it fairly high up their "to do list" to improve this side of things and cater to that market.

It perhaps won't be able to do all the things you'd like it to just yet, but if you like FreeAgent generally, aren't that happy with your existing solution, it should be a good option. You can hopefully get quite a bit of value from it in the short term, and within a year or two hopefully it can do everything you'd want.
