    Investment Ideas

    Hi,

I was wondering anyone has tried any new avenues as investments/side hustle apart from common ones mentioned below and how did it go?

    1. Share investment - SIPP, ISA, JISA, Trading, etc
    2. Crypto
    3. Real estate buy and let
    4. Startup investments - SEIS, EIS

I would suggest reading some of the threads of the 1st page on this very forum.

Ok, I have a SIPP, ISA etc they are okay. I used to trade, I dont anymore as Mrs Courtg9000 is the expert on this stuff in the house.
I have a few quid in crypto (not much £800 or so)
The BTLs run okay apart from the odd crappy tenant. Yields are reasonably steady.
Investing in businesses. I used to publish a magazine full of opportunities in this sector amongst other things including some very risky stuff. I have invested with a few successes and one or two bum steers. SEIS is a good vehicle, not one I like generally as the disadvantages in the rules can easily outweigh the tax advantages. The maths stack up but little else, especially if you need evasive or intrusive action to protect your dosh.
I started out investing in small internet businesses. That did very well some time ago. Yields have shrunk for the most part now.
A former client of mine has invested heavily in classic cars and that is going very well for him. He is up about 15% on last year.
Another former client of mine invests in hotels. He is down a bit at the moment.
A friend has invested in rare books. I am not totally sure how that "portfolio" is doing.
