    Feckin gits, they took the money out and left me overdrawn without any hint of notice!

      I used to work for clearing house. Not for a particular bank.

      they will take the money out and charge your for going into OD. Their counter argument is that this money was not yours in first place so they do not have to notify you before taking it.

      However if you argue and make a fuss on the OD charges they will let you off.

      Things they can do !!!!

        Ever tried to withdraw money from ATM - no money received and you get a debit of £x then a credit of £x?

        I once withdrew £100 in 1989 - took ages. It got debited then recredited to my account.

        In 1990 the IR forgot to send higher rate tax demand - that saved £1400.

          Well I guess you should always have the money on hand to pay back just in case they ask for it.

          Ive also received a nice little payment from my bank (to settle a county court claim) where they not only paid me out more than the claim BUT also settled on the claim.

          That was over a year ago now
