Well I guess you should always have the money on hand to pay back just in case they ask for it.Originally posted by TazMaN
So the questions are... Will they find out? Should I keep quiet? What would Jesus do?!

Ive also received a nice little payment from my bank (to settle a county court claim) where they not only paid me out more than the claim BUT also settled on the claim.
That was over a year ago now

Ever tried to withdraw money from ATM - no money received and you get a debit of £x then a credit of £x?
I once withdrew £100 in 1989 - took ages. It got debited then recredited to my account.
In 1990 the IR forgot to send higher rate tax demand - that saved £1400.

I used to work for clearing house. Not for a particular bank.
they will take the money out and charge your for going into OD. Their counter argument is that this money was not yours in first place so they do not have to notify you before taking it.
However if you argue and make a fuss on the OD charges they will let you off.
Things they can do !!!!

this did this once to a guy i use to know when i was at school.
They accidently put £12,000 into his account.
He was happy, and being a moron he put a FREEZE on his account so no money went in or out.
After about 2 weeks the money had just vanished from his account.

I've a feeling that that crazy cat Jesus would have bought himself a load of Ketamine and gone on a 3 day bender with the disciples.Originally posted by TazMaNSo the questions are... Will they find out? Should I keep quiet? What would Jesus do?!

Wow, he must have got a bundle! This mistake is for a few thousand quid but I wouldn't live life running from the bank for it!Originally posted by BrollyBabeDitto
My mate did this, now lives abroad and moves house regularly, wonder why he does that?!

DittoOriginally posted by Not So WiseDon't spend it. When they realise the mistake (they will one day) they will deduct it without warning, which at best might just screw up your projections at worst might put you seriously OD and with all the related charges attached

Sit on it for a while.... see what happens. You may get a bit of interest out of it at least.

It is not yours and you know it is not yours. Inform them of their mistake, if they require you to fix it then bill em for your time.Originally posted by TazMaNAnyone have experience of this?
Whilst rationalising my bank accounts I transferred some cash from one bank to another. The value was not huge but enough to buy a small cheap second hand car!
The issue is that the amount was credited to the receiving bank twice, but only taken out of the sending bank once. I had only asked for the transfer to be made once. The money was definately credited twice because it is showing as a cleared balance and I have since moved it into a savings account.
So the questions are... Will they find out? Should I keep quiet? What would Jesus do?!

This happened to me once. After about a day, they negated the additional payment with another. Surprised they didnt notice this at the end of the day tho
