    Caunce O'Hara Legal Expenses Insurance

I was looking at tax investigation/legal expenses insurance for my business. QDOS gets mentioned a lot but I noticed Caunce O'Hara do it too with some connection with Bauer and Cottrell.

Has anyone got Caunce O'Hara Legal Expenses Insurance instead of QDOS Tax Enquiry Insurance?
And had any experience of making a claim?
Do they always use Bauer and Cottrell for HMRC enquiries?

No idea about their offering, but Abbey Tax also do it if they have reviewed your contract.

Just adding a third offering to the mix

Just join IPSE. All the cover you'll need.

IPSE is much more expensive and I want it for the business and not as a personal non deductable expense:

<offtopic>IPSE membership in the name of an individual isn't a valid expense. IPSE membership in the name of the company is a valid expense.</offtopic>

It's not that expensive for what you get out of it; all insurances are expensive if you never need to claim on them. It's certainly a lot more cost effective than any dedicated commercial insurances, which is the basis on which I run my business. YMMV...

It is deductible as well, just not against CT for reasons I'm not going into all over again. VAT is recoverable and there's no BIK. Perhaps read the whole of your quoted thread (and my contributions to it)?

I looked at this - there seemed to be very little detail about it on their site at the time.
It was much cheaper than IPSE membership.

However, I think someone (eek?) made a comment about IPSE's cover being provided by "people who know what they're doing", which seems pretty important to me - IPSE have a track record (see batcher's posts for a comparison to other services) so I'm happy to put my peace of mind in their hands.

The IPSE cover includes a lot of other benefits - see https://www.ipse.co.uk/member-benefits

The conclusion from that thread was that membership in the company name is not a BIK and does not have to go on the P11D.
