    Both times for me it was easy. First because no one knew how the internet worked and I did....

    Second time because they needed someone who knew both .net and java... And I did...

    As many continually say its actually not the first contract you need to worry about but the second one. And never take a contract for money take it based on where it will leave you at the end of that contract. No point taking a contract using old skills if it means you won't have any skills to get any contract this time next year...

    Did the same. Much as I like to think I was being brave setting out on my own, it was the redundo that was the primary deciding factor

    Fair play to people who leave and do it of their own accord - I went through a lot of permie rejection before even interviewing for contracting... think if I'd still been in a job I would've gone back with my tail between my legs and stayed in it
