I've been following this thread with interest since having issues with Parasol and their "employment costs". I can confirm that they are indeed hiding extra charges wthin this, which in my case effectively makes their margin over £50 per week! on my last payslip £87.07 was deducted as employment costs, of which £62.53 was employers national insurance. They have explained by email that it is to cover increased payroll costs etc, but all I know is that I am about £25 out of pocket every week in comparison with other umbrella companies.
What has annoyed me most is how devious they have been in introducing these charges, and no doubt there are probably many Parasol contractors out there who are completely oblivious. Does anyone know who regulates umbrella companies or if there is some sort of ombudsman?

As a matter of interest Lisa, how do you pay yourself? What's your method for remitting Contractor Umbrella's vast profits? Drop me a line if you need a hand in that area!

Unfortunately we don't have a regulatory body or an ombudsman - ultimately any real regulation is down to HMR&C policy

Jet Spanner - please can you DM me with your personal details or email me at steven.proud@parasolgroup.co.uk. One of our senior operations managers will then give you a call to go through this with you and discuss how we take it forward.

                  Thanks

                  Steven

Steve - I seem to recall that you mentioned that the additional costs of complying with AWR would be "pennies" rather than pounds - it seems that from reading this thread, Parasol are adding extra costs onto your clients and not being upfront about it.

Can you set the record straight on how you are funding the AWR costs, or perhaps I should say, how your clients are funding the extra AWR costs?
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero

Steve - at the beginning of the week, I threw down the guantlet to you to categorically deny that Parasol would ever charge additional fees that weren't explicitly agreed up front, and then hide it as employment costs as opposed to detailing it on the payslip for total transparency. Despite promises that you'd soon be answering all such questions, you've yet to do so and still the accusations keep coming.

The only response you give is for people to discuss it with you individually, and indeed if anyone does dispute their payslip then they should. However, this doesn't stop you from giving a general & categoric denial that Parasol would ever engage in such underhand tactics, and indeed if it is not true then I would assume that you'd be only too quick & only too keen to take this opportunity!!!

jet spanner - if they can't covince you that all is kosher with their deductions then I suggest you vote with your feet and take your custom elsewhere. There are umbrellas that charge as little as £9.99 per week and provide total transparency on their payslip of all charges levied.
