I am hopefully going to begin a short term contract next week as a manager over 2 sites. I spoke with the agency today and hoped that Contractor Umbrella would be on their list, but instead there is Umbrella, Giant, JSA and Parasol. From searching this forum they are all ones to avoid - but is one better than the other and how easy is it to convince an agency to go with your preferred Umbrella? Also, I realise I can't claim home to workplace travel through an umbrella any more, however this will be about 3 hours+ travel a day. Can I still claim on a self assessment at the end of the year? TIA

Short and disappointing preferred supplier list and SDC

Ask if you can use your preferred umbrella. ContractorUmbrella wasn't on my agency's preferred list either but they said no problem when I asked.
So why have a preferred supplier list then, you may wonder. Answer to be found in a brown paper bag, probably.Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on. -
