Wireless dimmable lights

Saw this offer: Philips Dimmer Lighting (click "already registered" to clear a popup if it appears) and was tempted to give it a try for that price, but I wondered if anyone else has this kind of thing?

It seems a bit of a gimmick although I could see it being useful when we forget to switch the bloody lights off downstairs and only realise after 2 sets of stairs

Similar to LIFX, considered them in the past, bit of a unnecessary gadget IMHO, and very expensive.

May be good to try a couple out as a test.

Haven't you got to wait 5 minutes before those types of bulbs actually reach a brightness worth dimming though?

Would be better getting dimmable spots and then just buy a remote control switch for the wall IMO..

Some modern low-energy bulbs are near-instant, others are still really depressing and make you feel like you're in a gritty movie for a few minutes

Do CFL bulbs even have a future, now that LEDs are becoming cheaper and are available in formats to replace traditional bulbs, not just spots?
Even less energy consumption for the same brightness, instant light, dimmable, no flicker, long lifetimes etc.
I've started replaceing bulbs with LEDs as they die now, unfortunately just some old halogens and incandescents as the CFLs are still going.

I think LEDs are a way off becoming the norm... most people still balk at the up-front cost even if they will end up being better off.

Perhaps you're right.

For example, an LED vs CFL from the same place, and as like to like as I could be arsed to find:

The LED is just over twice the price, but gives 25k hours vs 8k hours of usage, uses slightly less power, somehow has 5 Watt equivalent less power, but higher lumens.

Overall the LED is a MUCH better deal, but you're paying nearly £13 for 1 lightbulb.
