      vi is actually my unix choice. But that is because I've used it on and off for 15 years and know enough of the key combinations off the top of my head that can I edit a file from the console without thinking.

          Essential for us techies when only left with the root slice/partition in rescuing the system. Other more feature rich editors may need libraries on now unmounted slices/partitions.

          Anyway, vi makes the command line command editing fun 'set -o vi' is one on my first things to type if not already set....

                    However as I found out recently if you are using a keyboard where the escape key isn't recognised, you are somewhat stuffed...

                      Oh yeah, my guru once told me it's even possible to use it on a teletype printer. I know how to use vi and will use it when I have to but I still think it's a piece of tulip.
