What do you mean, replacement? notepad and mspaint are eminent productivity tools.

At one esteemed client, all I used was dos edit.

Dos edit, TSO edit (I don't mean SPF), SQLPlus line editor, I can piss over a five-bar gate too

Anyway, +1 for vi - I love it. I have even wondered about writing a vi plugin for Open/LibreOffice writer.

Bit of a marmite one that... I hate vi with a vengeance and always will, that editor is the work of the DEVIL. There are so many more intuitive editors like emacs, jove, pico etc.
