Alternative to DynDNS

What is anyone using for home dynamic DNS these days, I used to use dyn.com but its no longer free so anyone know a reliable free (or cheap) alternative?

Sure I saw a post on this in the past but no joy finding it.

Perhaps I missed a checkbox, but I'm still getting stuff from them even though I ended up using another approach.

Cheers, just had a thought and checked my BT Homehub router's dynamic DNS section and it says "The services supported by your BT Home Hub are DynDNS, NoIP and DtDNS" so might try that NoIP thats been mentioned.

DynDNS is still free as long as you poke it once a month, isn't it?

Dunno, I let my old hostname lapse and it was removed and their site steers me towards the $20/year option to create one. May be one of those where the free hostname is still there but they hide it assuming you'll follow the purchase route and not read around too much. Will take another look but reason I didn't look closely is I remember seeing Blog posts a while back saying they'd halted the freebies.

Quite a few previously openly free services seem to do that now.

Just checked for you. If you create a new account you can keep 1 host name for free if you try their paid service trial for free fo 14 days.

Edit: If you can remember your old username you can keep two free hosts.

Yes but they no longer offer the easy names like pondilfe.homeip.net for free.

I created one late last year and when I didn't use it for a month they did indeed delete it.

P.S. Some poor soul was probably still getting hits from Google on my old homeip.net address for several years, but probably didn't realise it. There was an Xbox on there until a month or two ago. It's gone now
