    The Official Mac Fanboi Thread

Seem to be a fair few threads on Mac's and OSX, thought it might be an idea to have an all in one thread.

OS X Lion (10.7) has been confirmed for launch today!

I am not holding much hope of being able to down load the 4GB patch today, as I imagine the servers are gonna be hammered

I'm going to give it a couple of weeks. I have a Mac Air and iMac to get updated.

My time machine is off line at the moment, so want to get that working again before I try the upgrade

Rumour has it that Apple have shipped gold masters to each Apple Store so you can download it there quicker.

I am working away this week, so don't want to be downloading it on my 3G dongle anyway; I shall be hoping this rumour is true and popping into the Liverpool Apple Store.

Anyone know if VMWare Fusion works OK on it? (Those who have had the Dev builds)

I assume that will only be used on the demo units? I doubt the great unwashed will be able to access them

Sadly, my MacBook is Intel Core Duo (the 584th to be built in week 30 - July - of 2006, as it happens) and Lion requires Core 2 Duo or upwards, being 64-bit; so Snow Leopard is the current and final OS X version this machine will run

Ah well, it's been a damn fine machine for five years and still has plenty of life left in it for various purposes, but I suppose I'll have to use Lion as the excuse to get a new one

Well, it's official... Lion in the App Store, new Mac Airs (Typical, mine arrived last month), New Mac Minis, New Mac Display and the old faithful Mac Book to be withdrawn from service.

Not tried it myself yet, but apparently to get a Lion Bootable install disc.....

                1. Purchase and download Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Mac running Snow Leopard.
                2. Right click on “Mac OS X Lion” installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
                3. Inside the Contents folder that appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
                4. Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to another folder like the Desktop.
                5. Launch Disk Utility and click the burn button.
                6. Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn, insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot Disc to come out toasty hot.

                  Good find.

Now I wonder if that disk would then allow an upgrade on another device.....

No reason why it shouldn't. It's not as if Apple have ever bothered with any kind of copy protection for their OS install discs
