Tethering iPad to a phone using wireless?

Anyone doing this on a regular basis?

    Is it a viable solution?

If I have a phone capable of acting as a wireless AP and unlimited data, do I need 3g on an iPad for mobile web access etc?

Doable but it slaughters the iPhone battery...

Plus you need to jailbreak the iPhone.

I'm in Welsh Wales now on me iPad 3G with a 1gb data plan tenner a month and in two days I've used 8mb of it.

I understand the Samsung Galaxy S2, although probably Android specifically as the OS can be tethered, sorry but not tried it yet.

If wireless isn't available it is the option.

All android 2.2 and higher( so both galaxies, all HTC desire and all new ones) should be able to do it. Plus you can turn your phone into a hot spot.

I tether my ipad to my iphone. You don't need to jailbreak it, iOS 4.3 allows you to turn your phone into a hotspot. I also have one of these:

Three - Mobile Broadband - MiFi

You don't need to have the 3g ipad, connects over wifi.

This is what I'm thinking, if I have a phone contract with unlimited data that can be a WiFi hotspot, why would I need to pay for a seperate 3G connection for the iPad?

Any idea if their PAYG option for £71.99 has any hidden gotchas, such as having to top up every month and what credit you don't use in a time period you lose?

I'm on the old 02 contract - unlimited data but no tethering or personal hotspot, costs 7.50!
